Image-Based Comprehension Bundle – Whole School Y1–Y6
60 information-rich resources. One complete whole-school comprehension collection.
The Whole School Image-Based Comprehension Bundle brings together all 60 themed resources from Year 1 to Year 6, providing a clear progression in retrieval, navigation, information-handling and cross-referencing skills across the primary years.
Rather than beginning with a traditional written passage, every resource uses an engaging, information-rich image. This reduces the decoding demands of conventional comprehension and allows pupils to focus specifically on the skills and behaviours needed to find, understand, select and connect information.
The collection has been carefully designed so that the challenge develops as pupils move through school. Images, information sources and questions become increasingly sophisticated, allowing pupils to build confidence with retrieval before progressing towards more complex navigation, comparison and cross-referencing.
A clear progression from Year 1 to Year 6
Year 1 & 2 – Find & Identify
Pupils learn to look carefully, locate obvious information and retrieve details from familiar visual contexts. They develop confidence finding objects, people, words, numbers, prices, signs, labels and other key information.
Year 3 & 4 – Navigate & Connect
Pupils move into increasingly structured information sources including menus, maps, tables, timetables, receipts, schedules, adverts and information boards. They must work out where information is located, scan efficiently and begin connecting details from different parts of an image.
Year 5 & 6 – Cross-Reference & Compare
Pupils encounter richer, multi-section information sources and must increasingly combine multiple pieces of information. Questions require pupils to compare options, apply two or more criteria, eliminate possibilities and cross-reference details before reaching an answer.
Find it → Navigate it → Connect it → Cross-reference it.

60 engaging resources across Years 1–6
The bundle includes all three complete Image-Based Comprehension collections:
Year 1 & 2 – 20 resources
Accessible, engaging visual contexts designed to develop early retrieval, observation and information-finding skills.
Year 3 & 4 – 20 resources
A wide range of real-world information sources designed to develop efficient navigation, scanning and increasingly sophisticated retrieval.
Year 5 & 6 – 20 resources
Rich, varied information sources designed to develop advanced retrieval, comparison and genuine cross-referencing of multiple pieces of information.
The huge variety is deliberate. Pupils aren't learning how to answer questions about one particular type of image; they're learning the transferable skill of approaching unfamiliar information, understanding how it is organised and finding exactly what they need.
Ideal for:
Years 1–6 • Whole-school implementation • Whole-class teaching • Independent work • Guided reading • Intervention • SEND support • Retrieval practice • Comprehension lessons
The Whole School Bundle provides a consistent approach to Image-Based Comprehension throughout primary school, while ensuring that the level of thinking develops meaningfully from Year 1 through to Year 6.
It provides an accessible bridge between seeing information, retrieving information and ultimately navigating and cross-referencing increasingly complex sources — skills pupils can transfer directly into their wider reading and comprehension.
See it. Scan it. Find it. Connect it. Answer it.
