My first thought was “oooh! Reading lists for year groups!” As mum, former teacher and librarian, I love a list of book suggestions, and I could see after a quick check that a lot are readily available in libraries and can see the progression from picture book up to chapter books that readers will be able to manage independently, for various interests and abilities. Thanks – will be using!
This is a very useful guide to both teachers looking for resources and suggestions and parents (home-schooling possibly or just wanting to help build up reading skills at home with a bit of knowledge on the UK National Curriculum and scaffolding the skills needed).
With terminology, examples and guides for the whole primary age-range, the authors remind parents of the importance of reading, how to do this effectively, what difference it can make to children, and of course – with suggestions of titles that are age-appropriate and are likely to be enjoyed.
A slight volume that makes it less intimidating a prospect, very well laid out and helpful.
