16 Weeks to SATs

16 Weeks to SATs (Arithmetic) is a completely free weekly tuition video guiding pupils, parents and school staff through the arithmetic test and all the necessary strategies, tips and considerations needed to score 40 out of 40 on the KS2 arithmetic test.

Each weekly video will be perfect to compliment teaching in the classroom, support revision at home, intervention in school or just general learning. Delivered by Andrew (author of SATs Like a Ninja and experienced Y6 teacher), each video will aim to build pupil knowledge and skill in a sequenced / logical order, building towards SATs in May. Be sure to subscribe to the VN YouTube Channel to get notifications.

Each video will include a brief introduction as to the aim of the session, before moving into some active teaching and modelling of the key learning and how to perform the strategy. All sessions will include real SATs examples and directed opportunities to pause the video for pupils to undertake tasks for themselves, before answers are shown.

Each video aims to provide different strategies to solve problems. We understand schools will have their own preferred methods and approaches, so the content of these videos shouldn’t be seen as the only or correct way to complete a given question. They are just possible ways, which in our experience pupils enjoy learning and helps them be successful in SATs.

Each video aims to have a really informal style, with lessons being presented in a way that ‘kids get it’ and want to come back for more. The lessons work on the presumption that pupils have a good level of maths base knowledge as the lessons won’t be able to cover all of the underlying subject knowledge like in a normal lesson. The 16 weeks also don’t offer complete coverage of all aspects of the arithmetic test, but cover the parts pupils often find challenging.

What equipment do I need?

Equipment – All you need is a sharp pencil, ruler and ideally some 1cm squared maths paper. Blank paper is ok, but the squared paper will massively help with correct layout and help understanding. If you don’t have squared paper, ask school for some, or if you have a printer, here is a 1CM Squared Paper PDF. Alternatively, you can buy a full 1cm squared maths book on websites like Amazon (Link to paper options) for a few pounds.

Time – Each video will be around 15-30 minutes long and with time built in for pupils to complete tasks. You will need 20-30 minutes in total to watch the content and complete the tasks.
